COLLECTION
The collection comprises several materials directly related to community life, to charity activity that the Milk Station carried on since the early 20th century, the main events of its history, the persons who held management positions and the users to whom assistance was provided. The collection includes object of several types – science and technology, paintings, sculpture, tiling, photography and archival documentation – as an important source for the study of its activity and for research into social services in the city of Lisbon.
The museum is organised as two thematic areas. One dedicated to the creation and to the founder of the Milk Station, where one can view paintings and sculptures, as well as documents regarding the foundation of the institution. Another, organised as several exhibition nuclei, where the spaces of the old Services have been reconstructed and documents and objects related to their activity are presented: Milk-Production and Milk-Station Services, Medical Service and Administrative Service.
